Counting Chickens

When this mom describes her life and the “reasons” she has for wanting to homeschool, er, unschool her son, it makes my skin crawl.  Just so we have that clear.  That said, homeschooling in an urban environment does make a great deal of sense, in that educational opportunities (libraries, museums, parks) abound, and the public schools do tend to suck.  I sure wish I’d been able to do this with Cassie when we’d lived in New York — ohh, what fun!  

Still, I’m becoming an old fuddy-duddy when it comes to routines and schedules for kids.  Keeping a kid out late at a bar doesn’t seem cute or trend-setting, it seems disrespectful of the child.
